The Pen Factory

Our Story

The Pen Factory is the third pub in the group for Fiona & Dominic Hornsby, along with The Bridewell & The Denbigh Castle. Both award winning pubs. The Pen Factory, located on Hope Street, was originally The Lang Pen Company, here they made pens and were famed for their gold nibs – at one point they were the only pen factory in UK that did this. Unusually for a factory, this was right in the city where 400 people were employed, and while it has been described to us as being as bleak as a Dickensian novel, they walked out of the door each night to the view of both Liverpool’s cathedrals. Hope street so named after William Hope, whose house stood on the site now occupied by the Philharmonic Hall, has a variety of bars and restaurants to visit, Everyman Theatre is our next-door neighbour, there is history everywhere you look. We will endeavour to share this history within The Pen, whilst serving the most delicious food, prepared by our Chefs with an extensive wine list, cocktails and beers from local, national, and international breweries.
